Israeli soldiers, prisoners and prison guards will no longer wear uniforms imported from China

At a recent hearing on December 23, it was announced that Israeli textile factories will be given preferential treatment in future defense system bids, even if their prices are 50% higher than those of international competitors. MK Yacimovich, a member of the Knesset, has taken a strong stance against importing uniforms from China, emphasizing national security and economic interests. Under the proposed legislation, Israel’s security forces and the Ministry of the Interior will prioritize local textile manufacturers when purchasing clothing for the IDF, police units, and prison guards. The bill, introduced by Shelly Yacimovich, who oversees labor issues, has already passed its second and third readings at the Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee. The law stipulates that Israeli textile companies will receive priority in bidding, even if their offers exceed international competitors by 50%. This initiative is part of the "National Self-Esteem Act," which mandates that flags and uniforms must be produced domestically. Parliamentarians have called for an end to foreign production of national symbols, including uniforms and other textile products like tents. The bill covers a wide range of items, reinforcing the push for domestic manufacturing. The Knesset is expected to finalize the bill within the next few days. Once approved, the necessary regulations will be submitted for further review. Yacimovich has been advocating for this legislation for four years. Earlier attempts were rejected, but after securing 60 votes in favor, she engaged in extensive discussions with government officials and industry representatives to ensure clarity and consensus on implementation. On Sunday, Yacimovich confirmed that the agreement details are complete and should be approved within the coming weeks, allowing immediate implementation. She emphasized that the law requires Israeli textile factories to be the first choice for supplying products to the defense system, which will protect thousands of jobs and potentially create new ones. MK Yacimovich also stressed that Israeli soldiers, prisoners, and prison guards will no longer wear uniforms imported from China, marking a significant shift in procurement policy and national identity.
