According to statistics from the French Customs, in 2010, France’s foreign trade volume totaled 836.484 billion euros, of which 392.251 billion euros were exported, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%, and imports were 443.963 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. The report listed data on the deficits in 2010 for French export-oriented and weak sectors. The aviation industry is France's largest exporter of the most advantageous industries. In 2010, it exported 41.2 billion euros with a surplus of 18 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 14.4%. Transportation equipment exports, including railways and cars, have a surplus of 14.4 billion euros. Another export growth point is chemical, perfume and beauty cosmetics, with exports of 46.7 billion euros, imports of 39.2 billion euros, and a surplus of 7.5 billion euros. The agro-food industry exports 36.2 billion euros, imports 30.6 billion euros, a surplus of 5.5 billion euros. The pharmaceutical industry has exported 26.9 billion euros of medicines and 23 billion euros of imports, with a surplus of 3.9 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Agricultural, forestry, fishery and aquaculture exports were 13.3 billion euros, and imports were 11 billion euros, with a surplus of 2.2 billion euros.

The import and export of energy, including hydrocarbons, minerals, electricity, and refined products, had a deficit of 47.6 billion euros, of which hydrocarbon imports reached 46.6 billion euros, a deficit of 37.9 billion euros. Machinery equipment, electrical and information equipment imported 95.9 billion euros, and exports 75.9 billion euros, a deficit of 19.9 billion euros. Imports of textiles, clothing, leather goods and footwear products totaled 28.3 billion euros, and exports were 16.7 billion euros, a deficit of 11.5 billion euros. Metallurgical and metal products imported 34.8 billion euros, exports 29.4 billion euros, a deficit of 5.3 billion euros. Imports of wood, paper, and cardboard boxes totaled 12.7 billion euros, and exports reached 8.1 billion euros, a deficit of 4.5 billion euros. Rubber and plastic products imported 21 billion euros, exports 16.5 billion euros, a deficit of 4.5 billion euros. The automotive industry imported 42.8 billion euros, and exported 39.0 billion euros, a deficit of 3.7 billion euros, an increase of 16.9% over the same period last year.
