This past week, we discussed the idea of donating Popover Sundresses to a great cause. Regardless of whether you're making these dresses for charity or just for fun, I've gathered plenty of ideas and examples to spark your creativity. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/79a5e99bcc73d2932e208babee560254.jpg) For those who might not be familiar with the Popover Sundress, it's an A-line dress for girls that features a contrasting yoke and bias ties at the shoulders. It comes in sizes 2-8. The dress has tie shoulder straps, so there's no need for elastic, buttons, or zippers! Plus, it can be made completely reversible. Oh, and did I mention that the pattern is free? ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/54ace4e1d76f56568663a0c471d31fc8.jpg) Once the fabric is cut out, it's a fairly quick project to sew up, making it a fantastic instant gratification project. For beginners, this would be an excellent first dress-sewing project. If you prefer learning through videos, Liesl offers a Creativebug workshop where you can sew along with her. Recently, I sewed up several of them and experimented with a few different things. Most of the fabrics I used were from my stash. While rummaging around, I found a leftover piece of pink cotton with pintucks from a previous project. I had enough to use it as a yoke—it added some visual texture and interest, and it looked absolutely charming. ![Pintucks on the yoke of the Oliver + S Popover Sundress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/f0d5e71a881a9fc8d269f2086e337cd0.jpg) I'm a big fan of sewing with bias tape, and I adore how these sundresses look with bias binding on the hem. ![Bias binding on the hem of Oliver + S Popover Sundresses](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6e809fb9a86315f4fc789fa8474bc4e1.jpg) Why not add some Oliver + S pockets? I used the size 18-24M pockets from the Lullaby Layette pattern and placed them on size 2 dresses. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundresses with Lullaby Layette pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/16ab9cebb798134b437b8d928ab95b5b.jpg) Here's another version with the takeout box-shaped pockets from the Hopscotch Skirt. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with Hopscotch Skirt pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/c2cb673e4a68cf1d5d41a0541501934a.jpg) For this dress, I used scenery fabric and didn't want to cover the pretty print with patch pockets, so I opted for the on-seam side pockets from the Playtime Dress. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with Playtime Dress pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/0d4e6c72f3bc301b79419597c2cc84b8.jpg) Here are a couple of dresses featuring the gathered rounded pockets from the Jump Rope Dress and Puppet Show Shorts. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundresses with Puppet Show Shorts pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/082d04fd18d8b586ce6ce3cf91548eb9.jpg) For this dress, I added the pockets from the Ice Cream Dress. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with Ice Cream Dress pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/df1985d72a4718f89dd282f323a69755.jpg) Lastly, some square patch pockets from the Jump Rope Dress. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with Jump Rope Dress pockets](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6114f6723b06f963603ee26d4dc9e24c.jpg) If you're a quilter, you probably have some fat quarters (18" x 22") lying around. I discovered that a size 2 dress can be made using just two fat quarters. By the way, I've managed to squeeze a size 5 dress out of 2/3 yard of fabric, and a size 8 from one yard. ![Fat quarters](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/49c2b5582fc0261b1a61672728e4ee8c.jpg) ![Size 2 Oliver + S Popover Sundress pattern piece on a fat quarter](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/103a4773097f542e708ec8fc49ce193b.jpg) Now here are some examples from around the web. Janice created this striking version with a dog appliqué. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with dog applique](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/eae259969d5ab81734a6d8e50e2a35b8.jpg) Terra sewed up one with colored decorative rows of stitching. ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress with colored decorative stitching](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d11fad5dfea51a7f3e9e4b52137975ca.jpg) Nienke did some hand embroidery on the yoke of this monochromatic version in a beautiful blue. ![Hand embroidery on the yoke of the Oliver + S Popover Sundress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/c8ef1318dc60d3b44dde49791fc76928.jpg) Finally, Kathy made a onesie refashion for a baby. Isn't that adorable!? ![Oliver + S Popover Sundress refashioned into a baby onesie](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/5c690460440df6eacea546f4fb80562c.jpg) So, how are you planning to sew your next Popover Sundress?
